"We Are One Community—It’s Time We Act Like It"

Washington, D.C. —

It’s beyond disheartening to see the level of infighting happening within the LGBTQIA+ community right now. We’re up against some of the most aggressive attacks on queer and trans rights in recent history—yet somehow, instead of standing shoulder to shoulder, we’re tearing each other apart.

Let me be blunt: we are all equal. We are all one. It doesn’t matter if you’re gay, bisexual, lesbian, transgender, intersex, pansexual, non-binary—we’re part of the same damn community. And watching us gatekeep, isolate, and fracture ourselves is devastating.

Just tonight, our organization—We March, We Rise—was permanently banned from a particular subreddit. Why? Because we dared to advocate for trans rights, despite me not personally being trans. We weren’t there to co-opt the space. We weren’t there to center ourselves. We were there to help. And we got banned for it.

It’s this kind of division that weakens us. We don’t have time for this. The administration has made it brutally clear where its priorities lie—the trans community is under attack. The flurry of executive orders? The bills rolling out of statehouses week after week? The case out of Idaho that’s creeping its way toward the Supreme Court and could very well challenge same-sex marriage? This is happening. Right now.

And I’m going to say this publicly, no filter: forget how we feel. Our emotions, our egos, our petty squabbles—none of that matters when queer and trans kids are out here fighting to survive. Our job isn’t to coddle ourselves. Our job is to protect the generations coming up behind us.

The older generations? They fought tooth and nail so we could stand where we are now. It’s time we return the favor.

We need to be one community. One fight. One voice. One future.

Because if we keep splintering like this, we’re going to lose everything we’ve fought so hard to gain.

We March, We Rise. Together.
